Geo McElroy’s art reflects a deep connection to nature, rooted in childhood memories of exploring meadows and streams.
“I want to create connection with the natural world and its organic beauty; I want to draw the viewer into that existence, to stir a recognition or realization of the beauty while it remains. I use random patterns applied in multiple layers of brushstrokes to emulate the chaos that is the natural environment. The subjects of my paintings are the varied places of water, woods, and fields. I apply linear patterns– brush strokes on a layer of burnt umber– not in the pursuit of realism, but to reflect depth and mystery.”
Geo’s work has been shown in juried exhibitions across Annapolis, Rehoboth, Adkins Arboretum, Berlin, and Ocean City. Early in her career, she studied at the Corcoran Museum School in Washington, D.C., and interned at the Hirshhorn Museum, contributing to the bicentennial exhibition ‘The Open Door’. While completing her master’s degree at Salisbury University, she studied landscape painting with Dr. Robert Hill and Jinchul Kim.
